Cash & ATM’s
You will be able to get cash at most ATM’s as long as your card is VISA, MASTERCARD or a PLUS sign at the back of your card; the cash we’ll be in Tanzanian shillings using your bank’s current exchange rate.
It is advisable to have some extra cash with you as a backup.
You can pay with dollars or Shillings in most restaurants and prices for a meal generally range from $5-$15. However, in the shops and markets it’s a different story; it’s all about bargaining and prices will vary! Tourist shops also often accept, even prefer dollars, so again, bringing some extra dollars with you along with what you plan to give as tips can be quite useful.
Credit cards are accepted in some places for payment, however it is not something you should count on or expect.
